Overland Park Police investigate crash at 151st and Switzer that left motorcyclist dead

Investigators identified an Olathe man as the person killed. The driver of another vehicle involved is cooperating with the investigation, police say.

Overland Park Police are investigating a crash that killed one person late Friday night.

The crash, involving a motorcycle and a passenger car, happened in the intersection of 151st Street and Switzer Road at about 11:50 p.m.

In a news release, Capt. Steven Edwards with Overland Park Police’s Traffic Section said the motorcycle was being driven eastbound.

The motorcycle collided with a passenger car in the intersection, throwing the rider from the bike.

Recorded radio traffic from arriving firefighters reported that police were performing CPR on one person in the intersection.

The motorcyclist, later identified by police as Mika Farran of Olathe, died at the scene.

“The next of kin have been notified and are asking for privacy during this difficult time,” Edwards said in the release.

Police have not confirmed the direction in which the car was being driven at the time of the crash.

The driver of the car remained at the scene, and police said that person is cooperating with the investigation.

No other injuries were reported.

Police closed both streets one block away from the intersection as they investigated the crash.

The intersection reopened at about 5 a.m. on Saturday.

The crash remains under investigation by the Overland Park Police Department’s Traffic Safety Unit. Police are asking anyone with information about the crash to contact them at 913-327-6731.
