2 years after longtime Leawood Italian restaurant closed, gourmet taco joint opening in its place

Arkansas-based Local Lime is opening its first KC area eatery in the Town Center Plaza space once occupied by Bravo! Italian Kitchen.

More than two years after an Italian kitchen ended its decades-long run in Leawood, a new taco eatery is preparing to replace it.

Local Lime, an Arkansas-based taco restaurant, plans to make its Johnson County debut in Leawood.

Local Lime is coming to 5005 W. 119th St.

  • The restaurant is moving into a space on the north side of the Town Center Plaza shopping center, near Whole Harvest Kitchen.
  • Bravo! Italian Kitchen occupied that space for 20 years, before the restaurant closed in March 2023.
  • Officials with the Leawood shopping center said Local Lime is on track to open next spring.

Local Lime serves tacos and other Mexican fare

  • The menu at Local Lime’s existing locations offer a variety of tacos, such as fried chicken, “verde” veggie, crispy ahi tuna and curry fried shrimp.
  • In addition to tacos, Local Lime serves other dishes like quesadillas, enchiladas, salads and appetizers like nacho bites and chips and guacamole.
  • Local Lime also serves margaritas and other craft cocktails.

This marks Local Lime’s debut in Johnson County

  • The new Leawood restaurant also serves as the first in the wider Kansas City metro for Local Lime.
  • Local Lime is based in Arkansas, where it has two locations.
  • The restaurant also has a location in Germantown, Tennessee.
