Overland Park Police investigate after man said he was pistol-whipped in road rage incident

Police responded to near 159th and Metcalf on Tuesday afternoon. The victim, said to be in his 50s, is in stable condition.

Overland Park Police are investigating a reported road rage incident that ended with one man being pistol-whipped and sent to the hospital.

Officers were called to the area of 162nd and Travis streets, in the Boulders of Overland Park apartments, at 2:29 p.m. on Tuesday.

In a news release, Overland Park Police spokesperson Officer John Lacy said arriving officers talked to the adult male victim, who reported he had been involved in a road rage confrontation with another unidentified man.

According to recorded radio traffic, the victim, only identified as a man in his early 50s, was hit on the back of the head by the suspect with a handgun.

Police said the suspect was last seen driving northbound from the area in a gray sedan.

“The suspect is described as a Black male in his late 20s,” Lacy said in the release. “The victim was transported to a local hospital and will recover.”

Lacy said the injured man was in stable condition.
