Three months after opening in November 2025, Topeka-based Holy Moly Doughnuts appears to be selling the former Fluffy Fresh Donuts space in downtown Mission.
A sign on the front door reads “for sale” with the owners’ number attached to it. At least one Facebook story posted on Feb. 5 also signaled the space is being sold, requesting “serious inquiries only.”
The owners declined to comment for this story. The landlord of this building did not immediately respond to the Post’s request for comment for this story.
The Mission location’s Facebook page says it is temporarily closed, and many Facebook commenters have complained that Holy Moly has rarely been open during its posted hours.
Now, a longtime customer is hoping to raise $35,000 through GoFundMe to buy the space, make some updates and “bring Fluffy Fresh Donuts” back.
The shop appears to be empty
As of Tuesday morning, Holy Moly Doughnuts appeared to be empty.
A Post reporter found the doughnut shop closed, with no one inside, empty doughnut cases and the lights off. A “closed” sign hung in the front window.
“Donut shop for sale,” the “for sale” sign on the front door read, encouraging people to call or text the owners. “Serious inquiries only!”
In November, Holy Moly Doughnuts opened up at 5729 Johnson Drive, replacing the beloved Fluffy Fresh Donuts.
The space sits directly in between The Book Club, a bookstore and coffee shop, and gift store Truly Madly Depot.
In 2025, Fluffy Fresh Donuts closed its doors after nearly three decades.
The owners of Holy Moly previously spoke with a Post reporter for the story about the doughnut shop opening, but those comments were never included in our previous reporting because they declined to be fully identified.
The shop had issues staying open

The doughnut shop had a tough time staying open for business regularly, according to posts on Holy Moly’s Facebook page.
While Holy Moly posted about being closed over the holidays and in early January “due to baker being sick,” potential customers in Facebook comments have shared frustrations with irregular hours.
In the comments of a Jan. 11 Facebook post, one Facebook user questioned when Holy Moly would open because they’d “been there like 5 times and you all were not open.”
After a Jan. 15 announcement about new management coming in February, some Facebook users were hopeful Holy Moly might be open during its regular hours: 5 to 10 a.m. from Thursday to Sunday.
About a week later, Facebook users commented that the doughnut shop remained closed at least two days in a row that week.
“Hearing more and more of the old Fluffy Fresh customers that they’ve stopped even bothering to drive by,” one Facebook commenter wrote under the Jan. 21 post. “I’m sure it’s hard to find people to get up and make donuts in the middle of the night.”
Under its latest Facebook post, commenters have questioned what the “for sale” sign on the front of the shop is about and why Holy Moly appears to always be closed.
GoFundMe wants to “Bring Fluffy Fresh Donuts” back

Sean Duntz started a GoFundMe on Feb. 9 to “bring Fluffy Fresh Donuts” back to Mission.
Duntz wrote on GoFundMe that the doughnut shop’s closure “left a real void in our community.” When reached by the Post, he said Holy Moly plans to vacate by the end of Febraury, so he’s working on a short timeline.
“Johnson Drive is a great family place,” Duntz told the Post. “I want to help keep it that way and keep the local feel for many years.”
Duntz said he is willing to put his “20-year corporate career on hold and take a leap of faith to bring Fluffy Fresh back to life.” Duntz is the executive chef at McCormick & Schmick’s on the Country Club Plaza, according to his LinkedIn.
The GoFundMe has raised $270 of its $35,000 goal as of Tuesday morning. Duntz said the GoFundMe money raised will help him to buy the business, replace some equipment, update the HVAC system and cover startup costs.
Duntz also needs to support his wife, two children and dog as he tries to bring back the doughnut shop, he wrote.
“Your support will not only help me provide for my family during this time, but it will also help revive a beloved local institution,” Duntz wrote. “I’m ready to wake up early and make the donuts just as Jim did for Fluffy Fresh.”
