Over this past weekend, when the Easter Bunny paid a visit to the Ranch Mart North shopping center, families had a new patio on which to enjoy beers and burgers afterward.
Locally owned Burg and Barrel celebrated its grand opening on Friday, marking its fourth location overall, and its second in Leawood.
Even with families spending time at home over the holiday, co-owner Jake Chappelow said he was pleasantly surprised by the steady turnout in the new restaurant’s first few days.
Burg and Barrel opened at 3618 W. 95th St.
- The restaurant took over a space on the eastern end of the Ranch Mart North shopping center, which is just off 95th Street and Mission Road (where Leawood, Prairie Village and Overland Park all meet).
- There, it operates near healthy eatery Billie’s Grocery and barbecue restaurant Meat Mitch.
- Burg and Barrel’s regular hours are 11 a.m to 9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, and 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
Burg and Barrel serves burgers, craft beers and more

As the restaurant’s name suggests, Burg and Barrel is known, in large part, for its burgers.
The restaurant’s spicy avocado burger has been the top seller for six years running. In addition to burgers, though, Chappelow said Burg and Barrel’s salads and wraps tend to be popular too.
Burg and Barrel also offers a wide variety of craft beers on tap, as well as wines and cocktails.
The Leawood restaurant also offers the numerous weekly specials other Burg and Barrel locations are known for — like their full order of chicken tenders for $10 and half-priced drinks on Tuesdays, and burgers and fries for $10 on Thursdays.
“We’re very aggressive with our specials,” Chappelow said.
With a 4,200-square-foot dining room, the new Leawood space is Burg and Barrel’s largest space yet. What truly sets the space apart though, Chappelow said, is what sits outside the doors.
In addition to its patio, the restaurant backs up to a large public green space, used for concerts and other events at Ranch Mart North when weather permits it.
The new Leawood location is also near the Parkinson’s Exercise and Wellness Center, which helps Burg and Barrel with a cause that hits close to home for its owners. Every year, the restaurant hosts a “Pint for Parkinson’s”, for which it will partner with the center this year.
During the event, proceeds from every beer purchased go toward Parkinson’s research and support. The cause is personal for Chappelow, whose father had Parkinson’s disease.
This marks the fourth Burg and Barrel location
Owners Jake and Amanda Chappelow opened Burg and Barrel’s flagship location in 2013, off 76th Street and Metcalf Avenue in Overland Park.
Since then, Burg and Barrel has steadily added more locations — one in southern Leawood in 2018, and another in Lenexa in 2022. The restaurant also has a food truck, which can be seen at various events around the metro area.
For Jake Chappelow, the new Leawood space is more than just another restaurant. It’s the next step in a slow, deliberate expansion of the Johnson County-born brand.
“We do take our time opening, and we try not to overextend ourselves,” he said.
Expansion, though, has always stayed close to home for Chappelow. He grew up in Johnson County and went to Shawnee Mission South.
All four locations are within the county, and that’s by design. Though nothing is set in stone yet, Chappelow said Olathe could potentially be the next place customers might see Burg and Barrel expand to.
Though their menus are all the same, Chappelow said, each of Burg and Barrel’s restaurants tend to take on an identity of their own — each having their own popular menu items and clientele.
Getting to see what direction that takes at Ranch Mart North, he said, is part of the excitement of getting the doors open.
“It’s exciting growing the brand that we built, and getting to this point 13 years down the road,” he said. “It’s been a very great response from the neighborhood. I hope we’re just an addition to the energy that’s already here.”
