Office supply retailer OfficeMax closing in Merriam

The closure of the Merriam store leaves just one Johnson County store for the office supply retailer.

An office supply retailer is closing one of its Johnson County stores.

Closing signage has gone up at Office Max’s store at the Merriam Town Center shopping center, with closure sales now underway.

OfficeMax is closing at 5830 Antioch Road

  • The store occupied a space at the Merriam Town Center shopping center, which is just off Johnson Drive and Antioch Road in Merriam.
  • OfficeMax has occupied its Merriam space for at least a decade.
  • The retailer, under the same ownership as Office Depot, offers supplies like folder and binders, writing supplies, electronics, and arts and crafts.

OfficeMax still has one more Johnson County store

  • The office supply retailer still has a store in Olathe.
  • OfficeMax’s sister brand, Office Depot, also has a store in Overland Park.
  • Across the state line, Office Depot also still has multiple stores in Kansas City, Missouri.

Other changes are coming to Merriam Town Center

  • The closure of OfficeMax comes as plans form to bring a new grocery store to Merriam Town Center.
  • Though details have yet to be announced as far as which store, when and where exactly that could happen at the shopping center, further details will come before the city at a public hearing later this month.
  • Meanwhile, construction is well underway on a new Trader Joe’s off Shawnee Mission Parkway — Merriam’s first grocery store in eight years.
