Prairie Village Police confirm that a construction worker is in critical condition after being struck by an SUV late Monday morning.

The crash happened just after 11 a.m. on 79th Street at Ash Street, two blocks east of Nall Avenue.

At the scene, a Ford Escape with damage to the front end and windshield was parked facing east on 79th Street.

Several construction vehicles, including a tractor-trailer, were parked along the curb on the westbound side of the street.

Johnson County Med-Act paramedics and firefighters from Consolidated Fire District No. 2 transported the man to a Kansas City, Missouri, hospital with life-threatening injuries.

In an emailed response to questions, Prairie Village Police spokesperson Capt. Josh Putthoff confirmed that the man is in critical condition.

The driver of the SUV was not injured and remained on the scene with police.

Early Monday afternoon, Putthoff said 79th Street would remain closed between Nall Avenue and Rosewood Lane for at least a couple of hours as police investigated the crash.

No other details were immediately available.
