Prairie Village construction worker hit by SUV earlier this month dies

Michael Wayne Porter, of Kansas City, Kansas, was hit while working on July 6. Police say the investigation is ongoing and no charges have been filed.

A construction worker who was struck by a vehicle on Monday, July 6, has died from his injuries.

Prairie Village Police have identified the man as Michael Wayne Porter of Kansas City, Kansas.

According to a small memorial at the scene of the crash, Porter died on July 16.

The crash happened just after 11 a.m. on July 6, when an eastbound SUV struck Porter on 79th Street near Ash Street.

He was taken to an area hospital in critical condition.

The driver of the SUV, who has not been identified, remained on scene, and police say that person is cooperating with the investigation.

“No charges have been filed at this time, and the accident remains under investigation by the Prairie Village Police Department Traffic Unit,” Captain Josh Puthoff said in a news release on Monday.

A GoFundMe page has been set up for Porter and his widow, Debby.
