Fleeing pickup truck crashes into Fairway front yard, nobody injured

The speeding suspect missed the Mission Road curve near St. Agnes Parish, hit two parked vehicles and then came to rest on its roof against a house on Chadwick Street.

No one was injured when a Ford Raptor pickup truck that had been running from Kansas Highway Patrol troopers crashed into a Fairway front yard late Sunday night.

The crash happened around 10:45 p.m. at 53rd Street and Mission Road.

The driver of the speeding Raptor was going south on Mission Road and failed to take the curve near St. Agnes Parish, where Mission Road turns west.

After hitting a median, the truck jumped a curb and went into the front yard of 5300 Chadwick Street, ricocheted off two trees, before hitting an SUV parked in the home’s driveway.

The impact slammed the parked SUV sideways into a pickup truck parked next to it.

The Raptor rolled onto its roof, scraped the front of the house near the garage and finally stopped partially on top of the parked SUV.

A wheel from the Raptor was thrown into the side of an SUV parked in a neighbor’s driveway, damaging a passenger-side door.

Two of the parked vehicles sustained major damage.

A resident of the house, who did not want to be identified, told a Post reporter at the scene that she watched from a second-floor window as the suspect kicked his way out of the Raptor.

That resident’s husband was on the first floor, watching TV on the couch, just inside the front of the house when the Raptor crashed.

Police at the scene told the Post that Troopers were the first to arrive at the crash scene and found the suspect driver trying to run off, wearing only one shoe. The man was taken into custody.

Consolidated Fire District No. 2 and Johnson County Med-Act paramedics responded to check for injuries and damage to the house.

The suspect was treated on scene for minor injuries.

No structural damage was done to the house.

The resident told the Post that debris from the crashing truck shattered the glass in their storm door.

Troopers at the scene could not answer any questions about the pursuit.

The Post left a message with the local public information officer for the Kansas Highway Patrol and will update this report as new details become available.

According to online call logs, officers from Fairway, Merriam, Mission, Prairie Village and Roeland Park all responded to assist the troopers at the scene.

Tow trucks removed two of the damaged vehicles, and the final officers cleared the scene shortly after 1:30 a.m. Monday.
