Alex Bergman (Republican)
Alex Bergman lists no prior political experience but serves as secretary of the Museum of Kansas City’s board of trustees and volunteers with the Overland Park Historical Society. A Blue Valley graduate, Bergman is general manager of Bourgmont Winery and CEO of Midwest Winelands, and previously worked on the curatorial staff of the National World War I Museum and Memorial. In response to rising property taxes, Bergman supports a 3% cap on annual valuation increases and voter approval for tax increases. In addition, he is deeply skeptical of using STAR bonds to finance pro sports stadiums.
Bryan Mouber (Democratic)
Bryan Mouber lists no prior political experience but has formed nonprofits to help others in their work. An attorney who has practiced in Kansas for more than 25 years, Mouber taught commercial law at UMKC’s Bloch School of Management for six years and has lived in House District 28 for 18 years. As for property taxes, Mouber calls valuation caps a “gimmick” and would instead fully fund special and gifted education and restore state revenue sharing with cities and counties. He opposes school vouchers.
