Zach Maier (Democratic)
Zach Maier serves on the Lake Quivira board of directors and previously sat on the Kansas State University Alumni Association board. Raised on a farm, Maier earned an engineering degree from K-State, worked in product management at Google and Meta and now runs his own company, ZPM LLC. Maier opposes hard property tax caps and the Chiefs stadium deal. He says he would end the state’s data center sales tax break and stop automatic income tax cuts.
Angela Stiens (Republican, incumbent)
Angela Stiens is seeking a second term after serving on the Shawnee City Council from 2021 to 2025. She was first appointed to the District 39 seat in 2024 after Rep. Owen Donohoe retired mid-term. Stiens won election to her first full term later that year. Stiens has worked as an occupational therapy practitioner for 28 years and works with a small business that provides custom rehab technology for people with disabilities. She supports a constitutional amendment limiting residential valuation increases, backed the Chiefs STAR bond package and wants a multi-year plan to close the special education funding gap.
