SM East softball standout named to all-region team

Shannon McGinley, sluggin’.

Recent SM East graduate Shannon McGinley is heading out west today for a victory lap of sorts — and with a new feather in her cap, to boot.

The softball standout is on her way to The Sparkler, the largest college recruiting event for high-school softball players, in Denver, Colo., with her summer travel team, the Diamond Devils. It was at The Sparkler last year that McGinley was spotted by the University of Virginia, where she’ll attend next school year to play softball.

A starting varsity pitcher for her four years at SM East as well as a gifted center fielder, McGinley finished her senior year with a .519 batting average, .684 slugging percentage and 12 stolen bases. The performance recently earned her a spot on the Louisville Slugger/NFCA High School All-Region South Central teams. She’s one of just 159 student-athletes from across the county to earn a spot on the teams.
