AT&T will offer GigaPower high speed internet in Prairie Village, Fairway

1312213736-att-uverse-logo-2009Good news for northeast Johnson Countians who have been waiting for ultra high speed internet service to come to the area: AT&T announced today that it will offer its GigaPower service in Prairie Village and Fairway.

The service, which provides Gigabit speeds just like Google Fiber, had been previously announced for parts of Kansas City, Mo., parts of Leawood, Lenexa, Olathe and Overland Park. The release from AT&T did not include any timeline details.

The announcement comes as contractors for Google Fiber prepare to install infrastructure in northeast Johnson County cities including Mission and Prairie Village.

Both Prairie Village Mayor Laura Wassmer and Fairway Mayor Jerry Wiley were quoted in AT&T’s release:

“Prairie Village residents and businesses have long anticipated the construction of a high-speed fiber network within our City. We look forward to working with AT&T as it brings this valued service to our residents.” – Laura Wassmer

“Fairway is delighted to announce that AT&T has decided to bring its ultra-fast fiber network to our community. As residents and small businesses increasingly rely on and expect high-speed Internet service, the addition of U-verse with AT&T GigaPower service is exciting news and will present new opportunities for Fairway and our residents.” – Jerry Wiley

We’ll post additional details as they become available.
