The announcement many northeast Johnson County residents have been waiting for has finally arrived.

Two and a half years after Google Fiber signed agreements with Mission Hills, Prairie Village, Fairway and Mission to start offering its high-speed internet and digital television service to the area, the company sent out a message Wednesday informing residents that sign-ups for those cities should open in April.

“We’ve been working hard to build our network in Johnson County,” Fiber announced. “While there’s still lots more digging to do, sign-ups will be open next month.”

Fiber opened its sign up period for Westwood, Westwood Hills, Roeland Park and Mission Woods in the summer of 2014. In May 2015, the company confirmed its first actual home hook ups in the area.

Contractors for Fiber have been working throughout the county in recent months to install lines.
