Democrat Lindsay Vaughn files to run for seat being vacated by Rep. Nancy Lusk

Following the news earlier today that four-term Rep. Nancy Lusk would not be seeking re-election, another Democrat has formally announced her candidacy for the seat.

Lindsay Vaughn, an Overland Park native who works as a volunteer coordinator with the group Literacy KC, will seek the District 22 seat in November’s election. Lusk is serving as Vaughn’s campaign treasurer and has endorsed her candidacy.

In an announcement release Monday, Vaughn said she was running “because my experience has shown me the importance and impact of local leadership.”

“Decisions made in the statehouse directly affect the daily lives of Kansans,” she said. “I believe we need a young woman’s voice at the table in Topeka, and I am prepared to be that voice.”

She graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she received a bachelor’s degree in political science and anthropology with a minor in social and economic justice.

Lusk had previously filed to run for reelection, but will be withdrawing her name with the Johnson County Election Office. No other candidates have filed for the seat at this point.
