Forecast: The partly cloudy skies you’ll see this morning are expected to remain all day. Even with highs expected in the mid 60s, some strong winds coming our way could make it a good idea to bundle up.
Agenda:
- The City of Overland Park is currently holding its Most-Spirited Holiday Home contest. Residents have until 3 p.m. today to submit a photo of the outside of their home decorated for the holidays in order to participate. Photos can be submitted here.
- The Overland Park Arboretum and Botanical Gardens is hosting its 22nd annual Luminary Walk. From 5 to 10 p.m. tonight. take a stroll along the candlelit pathways of the arboretum while enjoying musical performances and a visit with Santa. You can purchase tickets here.
- Join the community in celebrating the legacy of Erin Langhofer, a 25-year-old Overland Park native who was killed in a 2019 shooting at a First Fridays even in Kansas City. Erin’s Comfy Clothes Drive asks residents to drop off new comfy clothing on Saturday from 10 a.m to 1 p.m. at Church of the Resurrection, 13720 Roe Avenue. To learn more, click here.
- Specially designed “My Bear Jeff” will be on sale on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the first floor of Nordstrom at the Oak Park Mall. For each bear purchased, two will be provided to a local organization to help a child in need.
- Shawnee native Molly Killilea will give the commencement address for the College of Health and Human Sciences at Kansas State University on Saturday at Bramlage Coliseum.
Noteworthy:
- Karoline Shelton, a Shawnee Mission South graduate, was named the American Volleyball Coaches Association DII All-American Third Team. Shelton plays for Hillsdale College as their junior outside hitter
- Overland Park’s Community Development committee approved an ordinance on Monday changing some regulations around vehicle storage. Under the ordinance, residents can now leave more than one recreational vehicle, boat or trailer outside, as long as it isn’t in front and doesn’t take up more than 20% of the outside space. One vehicle can also be visible, but the rest have to be screened from view.
