? How to catch a free bus from JoCo to Chiefs Super Bowl parade

Johnson County Transit will once again be offering free public shuttles to and from downtown Kansas City for the Chiefs’ Super Bowl victory parade scheduled for Wednesday.

The shuttles are set to depart from Oak Park Mall, 11149 W. 95th Street, in Overland Park, traveling to downtown Kansas City and back.

Josh Powers, the county’s transit division director, told the Post this year’s plan mirrors the one in 2020, when the county also offered free rides to the Chief’s Super Bowl LIV victory parade, ultimately giving some 20,000 riders a round trip to the festivities.

Catch a bus at the Oak Park park-and-ride location

  • The pickup point will be south of Hillcrest Bank and northeast of Macy’s on Nieman Road, according to a Johnson County press release.
  • You will need to park at Oak Park Mall and walk to the bus stop to catch the shuttle.
  • Powers’ advice for people who plan to use Johnson County transit is to come ready to have fun and celebrate the win.

Shuttle service will start at 7:30 a.m.

  • Buses will depart throughout the morning, with the last bus leaving at 11 a.m., an hour before the parade is set to commence.
  • Anyone not on a bus by 11 a.m. will not be able to get a ride from Johnson County Transit to the parade.
  • Powers said each bus can safely fit about 35 to 40 people.

Riders will have to walk a bit to Union Station

  • In Kansas City, riders will be dropped off at 25th Street and Southwest Boulevard — a roughly 16-minute walk from Union Station, where a rally will take place.
  • In order to get back to Oak Park Mall, riders need to return to the drop off location.
  • Return trips to Oak Park Mall begin at 12 p.m. and continue until 4:30 p.m., according to the county.

Most regular routes will be suspended Wednesday

  • A majority of Johnson County Transit’s routes will not run on Wednesday due to the parade, Powers told the Post in an interview Friday.
  • Microtransit (or ride-hailing) and paratransit services will still operate, but microtransit rides to the parade will not be allowed, he said.
