Blue Valley’s newest school, Aspen Grove, settles on mascot

The Blue Valley School District’s newest elementary school is almost ready to open its doors.

After years of construction, parents can now take a look inside Aspen Grove Elementary, 12402 West 182nd Terrace, with a virtual video tour on the district’s website and YouTube page.

The school, which also now officially has a mascot, will open for classes this fall at the start of the 2023-24 school year.

Aspen Grove’s mascot will be the foxes

  • School officials made the decision last month.
  • This came two months after the district officially narrowed down a name for the school — which came down to Aspen Grove, Aspen View and Woodland Trails as the options.
  • Both the mascot and school name allude to a nature theme that is also incorporated in some of the design elements of the building.

The school has 27 classrooms

  • The one-story building takes up 67,000 square feet.
  • Outside of the 24 classrooms and three special education classrooms, the building will also have an art room, music room, library and gymnasium.
  • Other features of the new facility include drop-off and pick-up traffic loops, a synthetic turf playground and outdoor learning patios.

Students from K-5 will attend the school

  • The boundary lines of the school encompass all households west of U.S. 69 Highway and east of the midway point between Quivira and Pflumm roads.
  • They also include households between West 183rd and West 215th streets, in addition to a portion of residences between West 167th and West 183rd streets.
  • Gretchen Anderson, the school’s new principal, previously worked as the principal of Oak Hill Elementary and Wolf Springs Elementary.
