One thing to know today
More plaudits have come in for Blue Valley high school basketball programs, after a successful season that saw two squads in the district take home state titles.
Longtime Blue Valley North coach Ann Fritz was named the Kansas Class 6A girls basketball Coach of the Year after guiding the Mustangs to their first state title in nearly 20 years.
It’s Fritz’s sixth state trophy in her storied career at BV North, where she has coached since 1995.
Earlier this year, she also surpassed 600 career wins.
“I’m just really proud of the girls. I feel just all season long they showed a lot of resilience and kept working hard to get better every day,” Fritz told Sports in Kansas.
Meanwhile, for the second year in a row, Blue Valley Northwest star Grant Stubblefield was named the Class 6A boys basketball Player of the Year and also the All-Classes Player of the Year given to the top basketball player from all classes.

He helped lead the Huskies to the 6A championship, averaging nearly 18 points at four assists per game.
Also a first team All-State football player, Stubblefield has committed to play basketball at the University of Nebraska-Omaha.
Blue Valley Northwest coach Aaron Ihm was also recently named the Class 6A boys Coach of the Year.

The Kansas City Royals’ opening day on Thursday looking good weather-wise.
Anyone got any big outdoor plans Thursday? We hear it's a big day around the metro.
Just after 3 pm, temperatures should be in the lower 70s, with a good breeze out of the south.
There may be some increasing clouds, but rain should hold off until the evening.
