? One thing to know today

A former nurse from Kansas City, Mo., was sentenced to a year and a day in prison for stealing fentanyl from Menorah Medical Center in Overland Park and AdventHealth Shawnee Mission in Merriam.

Faith Naccarato, 42, pleaded guilty to two counts of tampering with a consumer product and two counts of possession of fentanyl by deception and subterfuge, according to a press release from the U.S. Department of Justice.

Prosecutors say between January and April 2020, Naccarto used her fingerprint to remove vials of fentanyl from an automated dispensing cabinet in the surgical specialty unit at Menorah, replacing the fentanyl with a saline solution before returning the vials to the cabinet.

Meanwhile, between February and April 2020, she also took vials of fentanyl from an automated dispensing cabinet in the noninvasive cardiology unit at AdventHealth Shawnee Mission.

Naccarato told investigators that she stole the fentanyl for personal use.
