A former bank building at 95th Street and Monrovia could get new life as an event space and banquet hall called The Mint.
On Monday, the Lenexa Planning Commission unanimously recommended approval of the requested rezoning and final plan attached redevelopment project for the site near I-35 and the new Living Spaces furniture store.
The building is a former Bank of America
- Built in the early 1970s, the structure sits at 12345 W. 95th St.
- The ground floor had long served as a Bank of America branch.
- Some offices are currently on the upper level, taken up by different tenants, and would remain after the remodeling.

The Mint would entail an extensive rehab of the two-story building
- The plan is to update the exterior, as well as the lower level of the interior.
- The former lobby space, bank teller area and old bank vault will be converted to a reception space, city documents say.
- Additional rooms will be upgraded as well, including a designated bridal suite.
- The designs also show the former bank drive-thru structure would be converted to an enclosed structure that could serve as a chapel space for weddings, adding to the overall square footage of the building.
- Additionally, a patio space would be added.
Rezoning is required for event space use
- Though the office uses that are expected to remain on the second floor are permitted in the current Planned General Office District (CP-O) zoning on the site, the proposed banquet hall use is not currently covered.
- Klover Architects, the applicant, is proposing to shift the site to the Planned Neighborhood Commercial District (CP-1) zoning designation.
The Mint’s next steps:
- The rezoning request now goes to the Lenexa City Council for approval.
- It’s scheduled for the June 20 city council meeting.
- The final plan does not need a sign off from the council but it hinges on the authorization of the pending rezoning.
