Repaving on 87th Street Parkway could impact traffic flow

A repaving project on 87th Street Parkway between Loiret Boulevard and Pflumm Road in Lenexa is expected to cause traffic delays this summer and fall.

Work on the roughly two-mile stretch should begin Wednesday on the project, which will take several weeks, according to a city news release. The exact end date is unclear.

What’s the scope of the work?

  • The plan is to repave 87th Street Parkway between Loiret Boulevard and Pflumm Road as part of the city’s $7 million annual street maintenance project list.
  • It’s a mill and overlay project, which means crews will grind the older pavement and lay a two-inch thick pavement layer over it.
  • The work will touch one of the city’s highest-trafficked main roads.
  • This particular project also received $827,000 from the Johnson County Assistance Road System.

87th Street Parkway will stay open

  • Though 87th Street Parkway through this stretch will stay open, some lanes may close throughout.
  • Electric signs posted on either side of the project warn drivers to “expect delays” throughout the project.
