Kenneth William McGovern, known to his loved ones as “Ken”, bid his final farewell on March 29, 2024, in Overland Park, KS, at the age of 79. Born on February 25th, 1945, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Ken lived a life as colorful as his diverse interests. Ken was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, uncle, brother, and friend who will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Ken led a fulfilling life, excelling in his careers as a Heavy Equipment Sales Executive and an Investment Advisor Executive. His sales achievements, in both roles, resulted in many exotic and luxurious sales award vacations throughout his career. Each of these once in a lifetime experience had a story or two that many have likely heard.
Ken and his wife Linda of forty-nine years enjoyed a loving marriage, travel, and rich social life with their family, friends, neighbors, and other groups they regularly socialized with. We all loved hearing the many travel and other stories at weekly happy hours that went on for well over twenty years. Ken’s passion for camaraderie and travel continued into retirement with a busy social and family calendar, many continued happy hours, and couples’ trips to places like Barcelona, Australia, New Zealand, Alaska, and others.
Ken was a lifelong learner, which continued until the day he passed. His knowledge, experience, interests, continued research, and learning in current events, politics, business, technology, biotechnology, and other relevant topics were not only a life passion but a way to helps other in their own pursuit of the American Dream. In retirement Ken continued to provide much appreciated and successful investment guidance for many family members.
In his spare time, he enjoyed modern physics, bird watching, yardwork, hunting the neighborhood squirrels, and supporting his children and grandchildren in their various endeavors. His vibrant and curious spirit enriched the lives of those around him.
Ken is survived by his loving wife Linda, his children Daniel, Gregory, and Trisha, eight grandchildren, brothers Jerry and Patrick, and sisters Kathleen, Lois, Barbara, and Maureen. He is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Lillian, his brother Robert, and Mary, the mother of Dan and Greg.
A private Celebration of Ken’s life is planned to honor and celebrate Ken’s memory and share stories of his remarkable life. Ken will be remembered for his kind heart, sharp intellect, and unwavering dedication to his family and friends. Rest in peace, Ken – your spirit will forever be alive in our hearts.
