An Olathe man will spend more than 7 years in prison for stabbing two people, killing one person and injuring another.

On April 7 in Johnson County District Court, Jesus Neri-Aguilar, 24, was sentenced to 92 months in prison for voluntary manslaughter and aggravated battery in the death of 26-year-old Juan Jose Balleza-Ojeda.

Judge Michael P. Joyce handed down the sentence.

Neri-Aguilar pleaded guilty to the charges on Feb. 14. He was originally charged with one count of second-degree murder and one count of attempted second-degree murder.

Calls from the Johnson County Post to Neri-Aguilar’s attorney for a request for comment were not returned.

The stabbing occurred in fall 2023

The stabbings occurred on Nov. 11, 2023, when Olathe police were called to the 500 block of North Marion Street in response to an armed disturbance.

When they arrived, they found Balleza-Ojeda injured from a stab wound. While they attempted live-saving measures, he died from the stabbing on scene, an Olathe police report stated.

A second victim, Alexis Tovar-Estrada, 28, who was also stabbed, was transported to an area hospital where he was treated and released.
