Sweets shop specializing in ‘cookie bouquets’ closes longtime Overland Park storefront

Cookies by Design, which makes customizable cookies for special occasions, had been at Overland Park's Rosana Square since the early 1990s.

A company known for customizable sweets has officially left Johnson County.

Texas-based Cookies by Design closed its Overland Park storefront earlier this month.

Cookies by Design closed at 7106 W. 119th St.

  • The cookie shop occupied a space at the Rosana Square shopping center, just off 119th Street and Blue Valley Parkway.
  • There, it operated near Chinese restaurant Sichuan Dynasty and Hobby Lobby.
  • The store’s last day open was Aug. 9, according to signage on the now-vacant storefront.
  • Officials with the company did not immediately respond to the Post’s inquiries about the closure.

Cookies by Design had been in Overland Park for multiple decades

  • The company has been in Overland Park since at least the early 1990s, according to city permit records.
  • Cookies by Design previously occupied a different Rosana Square space at 7536 W. 119th St., before moving to its most recent space at the shopping center.
  • The shop is known for its decorative “cookie bouquets” for special occasions, and other customizable sweet treats like cupcakes and brownies.

This was the only Cookies by Design shop in Johnson County

  • The Overland Park shop also served as the only Cookies by Design storefront in the wider Kansas City metro.
  • The custom cookie shop got its start in Tulsa, Oklahoma, in 1983 before relocating the business to Dallas three years later.
  • Today, Cookies by Design has shops in several states, including California, Florida and New Jersey.
