A restaurant serving fajitas and other Tex-Mex dishes appears to have shuttered in Johnson County, at least for now.
Texas-based Fajita Pete’s has temporarily closed its Overland Park storefront — which was its only location in Johnson County.
Fajita Pete’s is at 8909 W. 135th St.
- The restaurant currently occupies a space on the southwest corner of 135th Street and Antioch Road, near Coach’s Bar & Grill and frozen yogurt shop Fifth & Emery.
- As the name implies, Fajita Pete’s is primarily known for its fajitas, which come with a choice of protein — such as chicken, pork, beef or shrimp.
- In addition to fajitas, the menu at Fajita Pete’s also offers other traditional Tex-Mex items like burritos, quesadillas, enchiladas and flautas.
Fajita Pete’s has been in Overland Park for four years
- The restaurant opened its Overland Park location in the summer of 2021.
- Signage on the door of the Overland Park storefront this week told customers that the closure was temporary, and that no further details were available.
- Officials with the company said this week that Fajita Pete’s does indeed hope to reopen in Overland Park in the “very near” future, but didn’t have further details at this time nor explained the reason for the closure.
One eatery closes, another one opens
- Earlier this year, Kansas City, Missouri-based restaurant Chick-In Waffle made its Johnson County debut just across Antioch Road from Fajita Pete’s.
- West of Fajita Pete’s on 135th Street, “dirty soda” chain Swig also opened its first Overland Park store in August.
- The Utah-based Swig plans to open two more Overland Park locations in the coming months as well — one at 91st Street and Metcalf Avenue, and another at the Bluhawk development off 159th Street and U.S. Highway 59.
