Poke and sushi restaurant debuts in Overland Park in former BBQ joint

Lawrence-based Pokéloha has opened its first Johnson County eatery in a space near 119th and Metcalf formerly occupied by Burnt End BBQ.

A Kansas-based poke bowl and sushi spot has officially made its debut in Johnson County.

Lawrence-based Pokéloha opened its new Overland Park location at the end of September, near the busy intersection of 119th Street and Metcalf Avenue in the former home of a barbecue joint.

Pokéloha opened at 11831 Metcalf Ave.

  • The restaurant opened inside a space on the northeast corner of 119th and Metcalf.
  • Barbecue restaurant Burnt End BBQ previously occupied that space, before its Overland Park location closed in 2024.
  • Pokéloha is open daily, from 11 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.

Pokéloha serves “Asian fusion” dishes

  • The restaurant is primarily known for its customizable poke bowls — a Hawaiian dish with fish served over rice and a variety of vegetables.
  • In addition to poke bowls, the Overland Park restaurant also serves sushi — both in the form of rolls and sushi burritos.
  • Pokéloha also serves ramen bowls, “dry” noodle bowls (served with vinaigrette instead of broth), rice bowls, boba tea and appetizers like gyoza and pork buns.

This marks Pokéloha’s first Johnson County location

  • Pokéloha initially got its start further west in Lawrence.
  • The original location has been open since the spring of 2019.
  • Pokéloha also has a location in Kansas City, Missouri, just across State Line Road from Leawood.
