Indian eatery opens in Overland Park shopping center where pizzeria used to be

Texas-based Desi Chowrastha replaces Copps Pizza Company, which closed at the Corbin Park complex earlier this year.

A new Indian eatery and market has officially debuted in a former Overland Park pizzeria space.

Indian restaurant Desi Chowrastha recently opened its new Overland Park location, replacing Copps Pizza Company at the Corbin Park shopping center.

Desi Chowrastha opened at 6301 W. 135th St.

  • The restaurant occupies a space at the Corbin Park shopping center, just off 135th Street and Lamar Avenue.
  • Nebraska-based Copps Pizza Company previously occupied that space for roughly two years before closing earlier this year.
  • Desi Chowrastha is open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., Sunday through Thursday, and 10 a.m. to 12 a.m., Friday and Saturday.

Desi Chowrastha offers a variety of Indian dishes and snacks

  • Desi Chowrastha serves dishes like vegetable pakora, samosas, chicken curries and biryanis.
  • They also offer sweets like lassis (a fruity yogurt-based drink) and pastries.
  • The word “Desi” refers to “land” in India, and the word “Chowrastha” refers to the intersection of four streets.

This marks the first Desi Chowrastha in Johnson County

  • The Overland Park restaurant also serves as the first in the wider Kansas City metro for the Texas-based brand.
  • Desi Chowrastha has 10 locations in its home state and several locations in other states.
  • Some of those other states include Virginia, Arizona, Georgia and Nevada.
