La Fetta opens in Overland Park, serving sandwiches and Italian goods

La Fetta Delicatessen opened its doors in southern Overland Park in October.

Adam Bracco describes the past couple of weeks as “chaotically happy”.

A southern Overland Park resident himself, he’d been looking forward to bringing an Italian deli to his own neighborhood. As it turns out, he wasn’t the only one. On any given day, a line of customers stretches to (and sometimes out) the front door of La Fetta Delicatessen.

“I think I’d probably guess about 30% of people coming through each day have already been here once,” he said. “There’s been a lot of repeat customers.”

He and his wife, Kelly Bracco, opened their new Italian deli in October. So far, Bracco said business has been booming.

  • The deli took over a space just off 143rd Street and Metcalf Avenue, near Jose Peppers and I Am Frozen Dessert Cafe.
  • Beastified Gym previously occupied that space.
  • La Fetta is open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday.

La Fetta offers sandwiches and other Italian treats

Customers at La Fetta can either build their own sandwich or choose from the 19 different sandwiches on the deli’s menu.

Some of La Fetta’s best sellers so far include the “beach boy” (with turkey, bacon, swiss, spicy garlic aioli, greens, avocado spread, red onion and tomatoes) and the “boss” (ham, finocchiona, hot sopressata, pepperoni, hot cappicola, smoked mozzarella, pepperoncini, tomatoes, “feisty” vinaigrette and “feisty” slaw).

All of La Fetta’s sandwiches can also be made with gluten-free bread.

“It’s all high-quality meats, and everything’s fresh,” said Scott Waldmann, manager at La Fetta. “We don’t buy pre-sliced tomatoes, we do it ourselves. Those little details are what makes a difference.”

In addition to sandwiches, La Fetta also offers sweets like chocolate chip cookies and cannolis. The deli’s retail side also features a variety of Italian goods like pasta, sauces, oils and charcuterie.

”There’s a little bit of something for everybody here, whether you want spicy or sweet,” Bracco said. “We’re making everything (fresh) daily, and I think that’s something that we stand by.”

La Fetta has ties to a popular deli up north

La Fetta (Italian for “the slice”) is an offshoot of Tagliare Delicatessen in Missoula, Montana.

The idea to bring Tagliare’s recipes back to Overland Park came after Bracco and his family initially tried the deli’s sandwiches on a trip to Montana years ago.

The sandwiches were so good, Bracco said, that his family had to get them again before returning home.

So far, he said the concept has landed with a splash in Overland Park. Not only that, but some customers that have come from other parts of the metro area are already asking for La Fetta to come closer to home.

Starting early next year, those expansion plans will begin to solidify. But for now, the La Fetta team said they’re focused on getting on solid ground in Overland Park.

“​​We’re still crawling, and we’ll be walking in the next couple weeks,” Bracco said. “But Kansas City and (Overland Park) have been so supportive.”
