After 2-year run, Overland Park strength training studio closes only JoCo location

Located at 135th and Antioch, Basecamp Fitness has closed after a brief stint, marking the company's departure from the Kansas City area.

After roughly two years, a fitness company has closed its only local studio.

Basecamp Fitness, a studio that offered group interval training workouts, recently closed its southern Overland Park studio — the only one in Johnson County.

Basecamp Fitness was at 8661 W. 135th St.

  • The studio occupied a space at the Village of Overland Pointe shopping center, just off 135th Street and Antioch Road.
  • There, it operated near Mr. Gyros Greek Food & Pastry and Bikanervala.
  • Basecamp Fitness opened in that space in August 2023.

The Overland Park studio was the only one in Johnson County

  • The Overland Park studio also served as Basecamp Fitness’ studio in the wider Kansas City metro area.
  • Basecamp Fitness focused on strength training, through exercises like cycling and lifting heavy items like kettle bells and medicine balls.
  • Basecamp Fitness offered different classes every day of the week, focusing on different parts of the body each day.

Something new is coming nearby

  • The departure of Basecamp Fitness precedes the arrival of Missouri-based coffee shop Mocha Point at the same corner off 135th Street and Antioch Road.
  • Mocha Point specializes in Yemeni coffee, and the Overland Park shop be the brand’s first location in Johnson County.
  • Local owner Omar Abdelmoity aims to open Mocha Point in its new Overland Park spot by the end of the year.
