A 29-year-old woman is in critical condition after losing control of her vehicle and crashing on Interstate 35 in Merriam on Friday evening.
The Kansas Highway Patrol said the woman was driving a 2009 Ford Fusion southbound on I-35 at about 8:03 p.m. when she lost control of the car.
According to the highway patrol’s online crash log, after the driver lost control, the vehicle struck a barrier wall and then hit a tractor-trailer head-on.
Troopers have identified the driver of the Ford Fusion as a 29-year-old Overland Park woman.
The crash log said that she was not wearing a seat belt.
Recorded radio traffic stated that Overland Park firefighters and Johnson County Med-Act paramedics found the woman trapped inside the heavily damaged vehicle.
Firefighters were able to pull the woman out of the vehicle in less than 10 minutes.
Johnson County Med-Act paramedics transported the woman to the University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City, Kansas, for treatment.
The crash log said that she sustained a “suspected serious injury.”
The driver of the tractor-trailer, a 38-year-old man from Grandview, Missouri, was not injured in the crash.
