Three years ago, a spark of an idea became a flame for Emily Young.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, people became more creative with ways to spend their time — including Young herself, who found herself spending more time than usual at home. Then one day, she came up with a new way to keep people occupied; by giving them a place to make their own candles.
That idea became Fuse Candle Studio, which she opened in Eudora in 2022. This fall, the studio made a trip further east, to her own hometown.
In November, Fuse Candle Studio officially reopened for business in Lenexa.
Fuse Candle Studio opened at 12808 W. 87th St. Pkwy
- The studio opened in a space just off 87th Street and Rosehill Road, near Tropical Smoothie Cafe and Autozone.
- A hair salon previously occupied the space.
- Fuse is open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday and Tuesday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday, and 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
Fuse customers can create their own scents

At the studio, customers can choose from a variety of scents, including up to four in their candle.
Young said that to date, some of the most popular choices at Fuse tend to be island citrus and apple bourbon. Other combination options include sandalwood and rose, lavender and espresso, and citrus and mint.
“We’ve got over 70 scents, and we hope to add more,” she said. “Seasonally, we have anywhere from five to 10 holiday scents at a time.”
After they’ve chosen their jar and scent(s), customers then go through a workshop where they learn how to pour their own candles. Fuse also offers a selection of wines and beers for people to sip as they work.
Some customers like to come to Fuse to recreate their home’s signature year-round scent, Young said, and others like to come in to create unique holiday gifts.
“We have customers come in and make their own blend, and then they come back to recreate that same blend,” she said. “It’s personal to them.”
This marks Fuse’s debut in Johnson County

Aside from the Lenexa studio itself, Fuse also offers mobile events, for which candlemaking supplies can be brought to other spaces across the metro area.
Though Fuse initially got its start in Eudora, Young said the goal was always to bring it closer to home.
A Lenexa resident herself, she said she’s been excited to relaunch Fuse in a community that she already knows well.
“I think it’s exciting to be close to where I grew up,” she said. “To have a business in my hometown is really fun. (The community) is really supportive.”
