England’s World Cup team will stay at the Inn at Meadowbrook, according to a report published Sunday in a British tabloid.
The Daily Mail reported and local sources have confirmed that the national soccer team has booked the entire 54-room hotel in Prairie Village for the duration of the tournament.
England is one of four possible teams that may use Kansas City as a base camp, but the first one to be publicly linked to a particular hotel.
Kansas City is a host city and a hub for the international tournament, which runs from June 11 to July 19.
World Cup teams generally bring in sizable delegations in addition to the playing and coaching staff. A broad estimate is 60 to 80 people, including public relations staff, equipment managers, medics and security, although exact numbers for this year have not been disclosed.
The boutique hotel at Meadowbrook Park, which opened in 2020 on the site of the former Meadowbrook Country Club, has 54 rooms. It is unknown whether non-playing or non-coaching staff will be put up elsewhere.
The hotel’s online booking system shows that it’s fully booked from June 10 through July 18.
Teams often do not stay once they have been knocked out of the tournament, so there’s a possibility England would not be in Prairie Village for the entire time. England won the tournament in 1966, but has not placed since.
The hotel describes itself online as one of “comfort and luxury” with a nod to the English cottage aesthetic.
England will play its group stages (the earliest rounds of the tournament) in other cities, but chose Kansas City as its home base because of its central location and after consulting players, the Mail reported.
In the past, the team has had personal touches installed at its World Cup hotels, including pictures of family and loved ones and comforting scents in public areas, according to the Mail.
Meadowbrook management did not immediately respond to the Post’s request for comment on whether the team has asked for anything yet.
Management at the restaurant Verbena attached to the Inn also declined to comment on Monday.
At the last World Cup, in Qatar, England stayed at the Souq Al Wakra, a posh five-star hotel with a private beach.
Other teams that have been mentioned as likely to use the Kansas City area as a base camp are Argentina, the Netherlands and Algeria. So far, they have not indicated where they might stay.
Argentina won the tournament the last time around in 2022.
