Local chain The Bar opening new Olathe location later this year

The new spot near 119th and Ridgeview will mark The Bar's fifth location in Johnson County and its second in Olathe.

A local bar and grill is preparing to deepen its roots in Johnson County this spring.

The Bar is preparing to open a new location in Olathe soon, marking the locally owned eatery’s fifth in Johnson County.

The Bar will be at 17927 W. 119th St.

  • The restaurant is coming to a brand new space just off 119th Street and Ridgeview Road in Olathe.
  • The new building will be part of a new mixed-use project by local real estate firm R.H. Johnson Company.
  • Once The Bar opens, its hours in Olathe will be the same as its other locations across the metro: 10 a.m. to midnight Sunday through Thursday, and 10 a.m. to 1:30 a.m. Friday and Saturday.

The Bar could open in Olathe later this year

Amy Turpin, director of operations at The Bar, said the size and layout of the new Olathe restaurant will mostly mirror that of the Prairie Village location near 95th Street and Nall Avenue.

The new build calls for 5,500 square feet of indoor dining (including a private VIP room), 2,000 square feet of patio dining and 1,000 square feet of greenery.

If construction progresses according to plan, Turpin said the restaurant could open by the end of 2026.

The restaurant’s menu offers entrees like chicken Caesar salads, smoked turkey wraps, patty melts and French dips.

The Bar also serves snacks like fried pickles, chips and salsa, nachos and pretzel sticks.

“We focus on fresh food, and we like to make a lot of our sauces in-house,” Turpin said.

On the drink side, The Bar also serves a variety of beers and craft cocktails.

This marks The Bar’s second Olathe location

The Bar already has one Olathe location further south, at 14871 W. 151st St.

Outside of Olathe, The Bar also has Johnson County locations in Shawnee, Mission and Prairie Village.

With the new location’s proximity to what will be the Chiefs’ new headquarters and training facility, Turpin said it’s exciting for The Bar to be coming to that part of Olathe amidst the buzz of new activity there.

“I think it’s a great location,” she said. “It’s going to be a beautiful (restaurant), and it’s going to be a beautiful patio. I think it will bring a lot to the area.”
