One Mexican restaurant has officially taken the place of another in Olathe.
Locally owned Agaves Mexican Grill opened its doors in Olathe earlier this week, in the space previously occupied by Salty Iguana.
Agaves opened at 10478 S. Ridgeview Road
- The restaurant moved into a space at the Ridgeview Marketplace shopping center, just east of K-10 in Olathe.
- There, the restaurant is near popular ice creamery Betty Rae’s at the shopping center.
- Agaves is open from 11 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, and 11 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
Agaves serves Mexican seafood dishes, cocktails, and more

In terms of seafood, some of the dishes on Agaves’ menu include pulpo (fried octopus), mojarra (fried whole fish), crab and shrimp chimichangas, and shrimp cocktail.
For those who aren’t into seafood, the menu offers a variety of other options — such as spicy steak “diablo”, grilled beef short ribs, and grilled chicken burritos.
On the libation side, the bar at Agaves serves a wide variety of craft cocktails. Some of those include the “sunset mezcal” (with mezcal, lime, agave, cucumber, pineapple, juice, cranberry juice and tajin) and the “Mexican candy” (with tamarindo vodka, lime, agave, tajin, chamoy, and watermelon).
Salty Iguana had closed there in September 2024

Before its closure, Salty Iguana occupied the space that now belongs to Agaves for more than a decade.
The locally owned Mexican eatery has now closed all of its Kansas City metro area locations, along with one in Lawrence.
Further north, another space previously occupied by Salty Iguana in Prairie Village is also expecting something new soon.
Casa Ama, a “modern Mexican” concept under the same ownership as healthy eatery Billie’s Grocery, will open this spring at Corinth Square.
