An Arkansas-based taco eatery is preparing to make its official Johnson County debut.
Local Lime, a restaurant serving “coastal-inspired” Mexican dishes, has set a summer opening in Leawood.
Local Lime will open at 5005 W. 117th St.
- The restaurant is taking over a space at the Town Center Plaza shopping center, just off 117th Street and Roe Avenue.
- There, Local Lime will operate near Whole Harvest Kitchen and clothing retailer LOFT at the shopping center.
- Bravo! Italian Kitchen occupied Local Lime’s new space for roughly two decades before the restaurant closed in March 2023.
Local Lime serves West Coast-inspired cuisine

The menu at Local Lime offers a variety of tacos, with “bright, vibrant” coastal flavors.
Some of those include fried fish, verde veggie, chargrilled ribeye and curry fried shrimp.
In addition to tacos, Local Lime also serves other dishes like birria quesadillas, spinach artichoke enchiladas and grilled salmon skillets.
Local Lime also serves a variety of craft cocktails, such as margaritas, negronis and palomas.
This marks Local Lime’s debut in Johnson County
Local Lime operates under the Yellow Rocket Concepts brand — an Arkansas-based group that owns three other eateries: burger eatery Big Orange, pizza and salad eatery ZAZA, and Taco & Tamale Co.
Leawood won’t likely be the first and last of Local Lime’s Johnson County’s presence. Through a press release, officials said the company aims to expand its Kansas City-area footprint with more locations following the summer opening at Town Center Plaza.
The new Leawood restaurant will also bring 80 new jobs, for which the company plans to begin hiring in June, it says.
Beyond Local Lime’s expansion in the area, Johnson Countians might expect to see some other Yellow Rocket concepts debut in the area.
“Leawood felt like home from the get-go,” said Amber Brewer, chief marketing officer of Yellow Rocket Concepts, in the release. “The community is vibrant, family-oriented and active — exactly our kind of crowd.”
“We’re not a company that builds a restaurant and moves on,” she added.
