Kansas City-based eatery Billie’s Grocery targeting Overland Park location

Overland Park's Bluhawk development has continued to grow. Soon, it will grow even further with the second Billie's Grocery in Johnson County.

In 2023, Kansas City, Missouri-based eatery made its debut on the other side of the state line.

For three years, Billie’s Grocery fans in Johnson County have gone to Leawood for their favorite organic wraps, salads and gluten-free baked goods. Soon, customers further out south will have all of those healthy eats a little closer to home.

As the Bluhawk development in southern Overland Park continues to grow, Billie’s Grocery plans to ride that wave. The restaurant will open its second Johnson County location in a brand new yet-to-be-built space there.

Billie’s Grocery is coming to Bluhawk

  • The restaurant will occupy a space just off 159th Street and U.S. Highway 69 in southern Overland Park.
  • It will be part of a new phase of retail development near the AdventHealth Sports Park.
  • Pending construction, its new location there will open sometime in 2027.

The menu at Billie’s offers items like Korean chicken wraps, spicy tuna bowls, salmon burgers and sesame chicken salads.

In addition to lunch items, Billie’s also serves brunch options like steak and eggs, crab scrambles, carnitas breakfast burritos and avocado toast.

On the sweeter side, the gluten-free baked goods selection includes treats like doughnuts, cookies, cupcakes and bars in various flavors.

Billie’s also offers a variety of smoothies, coffee drinks, teas, tonics and juices — such as the “beach babe limeade” with organic matcha, “Blue Magic” superfood powder, salted lime cordial, lime, soda and fresh mint.

This will be the second Billie’s in Johnson County

Owner Robin Krause opened the first Billie’s Grocery in 2020, in Kansas City, Missouri’s Gilham Plaza area.

With a background as not only a restaurateur but a certified herbalist and nutritional therapist practitioner, Krause launched the restaurant as an ode to healthy eating — while also pulling flavor inspiration from her global travels.

Billie’s Grocery opened its first Johnson County location at the Ranch Mart North shopping center (where Leawood, Prairie Village and Overland Park all meet) in 2023.

That location operates near barbecue eatery Meat Mitch and burger restaurant Burg and Barrel.

The addition of the Bluhawk location, Krause said, has actually been years in the making. It also comes at a time of steady growth for the development — in terms of the new sports park, the first of multiple planned hotels, and other retail tenants like clothing retailer Buckle and “dirty soda” shop Swig.

“I knew (Billie’s) was going to go out there, I just didn’t know the timeline,” she said. “Now that the sports complex is done, the hospital is built, they’re on their second or third phase, it’s ready. It’s really exciting — there’s a ton of great people out there.”
