July 1 marked the start of the 2026-2027 school year in the Shawnee Mission School District! With this fresh start, we can turn our focus to Building Tomorrow Together across the SMSD.
Everything we do to support and teach our students, every way we collaborate, every time we look forward, prepares our community, our schools, and our children for a better future.
Built by our community, and approved by our Board of Education, we also continue our Strategic Plan work. This year, we anticipate that one of our strategies, Facilities, will be at the forefront, with an anticipated bond issue. Right now, important planning, input gathering, and research is still underway. Even this work points back to the theme. Any thoughts we might put toward state-of-the art facility improvements have to relate to the kind of tomorrow we want to create together.
As always, we are looking at a new year with some fresh opportunities as well as some big challenges. We are always at our best when we work together to face them. We are One Shawnee Mission and We are Building Tomorrow Together.
