Born on July 15, 1934, in Łódź, Poland, Rachel’s life was marked by resilience and strength. As a Holocaust survivor orphaned by WWII, she embodied true courage as she and her brother Sol journeyed to the United States, arriving on Ellis Island in 1942. Adopted by the kind-hearted Dave and Eva Spack in Kansas City, Rachel grew up alongside her new siblings Morton, Helen, and Elaine, creating a lifetime of cherished memories.
Rachel’s life was a testament to her loving nature and unwavering loyalty. A homemaker by trade, her home was a haven of warmth, love, and delicious meals. Outside her home, Rachel served her community with grace, volunteering for the American Cancer Society and other organizations. She was an avid traveler and enjoyed playing tennis. But what mattered most to Rachel were the relationships she nurtured over her lifetime. Her greatest joy was spending time with her children and grandchildren, creating memories that will be treasured forever.
Rachel was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Barney Kurz; her brothers Sol Felman and Morton Spack; and her sisters Helen Levy and Elaine Kisluk.
She is survived by her sons Rick (Va) Kurz, Jeff (Terry) Kurz, and Greg (Lisa) Kurz; her grandchildren Aaron (fiancé, Vivian Anderson) Kurz, Andrew Kurz, Taylor (Scott) Welsh, Samantha (Matt) DeVito, Dylan (Mary Kate) Kurz, and Danny Kurz; five great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
