Lenexa City Manager Beccy Yocham has announced her decision to retire once the city finds her replacement.
On Friday, Yocham announced her decision via a press release from the City of Lenexa.
“I have been honored to serve alongside them for nearly 30 years,” Yocham said in a statement to the Post. “As my time with the City comes to a close, I leave with complete confidence that Lenexa’s future is bright, and its best days are still ahead.”
Yocham is Lenexa’s fourth city manager. She was hired in 2019, replacing longtime City Manager City Eric Wade. Prior to serving as city manager, she also served as director of community development and deputy city attorney — her first job for the city when Lenexa hired her in 1997, according to her LinkedIn profile.
The city manager is appointed by the Lenexa City Council and works with elected officials to establish and advance the community’s goals while overseeing the city’s professional staff and day-to-day operations.
During her tenure, Yocham played a key role in several major city decisions, including the establishment and continued growth of Lenexa City Center. She also was a central figure in controversial city decisions, including the city’s rejection of the county’s proposed homeless shelter in 2024.
“It has been my privilege to serve the City of Lenexa during such an exciting period in its history,” she said in the statement to the Post.
In the press release, the City of Lenexa credits Yocham for strengthening the city through her city staff recruitment, strategic direction for major city projects and community priorities.
“We are deeply grateful for Beccy’s decades of dedicated service to Lenexa,” Mayor Julie Sayers said in a press release. “Her thoughtful, steady leadership has helped shape our community and strengthen the organization for our employees. She is a valued and respected leader whose impact will be felt in Lenexa for many years to come.”
Under Sayers’ direction, the Lenexa Governing Body will conduct a nationwide search for the city’s next manager. Additional details about the search process will be shared soon, according to the city.
