Johnson County Community College (JCCC) will construct a new building on the main campus to support the growing number of students interested in healthcare-related programs and careers—and meet state and regional workforce demand. JCCC plans to break ground on the new building during the 2026-2027 academic year.
Due to classroom space constraints and faculty capacity, many of JCCC’s healthcare occupations programs can only accept a limited number of students each year. The facility will increase the number of students JCCC can educate and train in these programs, while strengthening the existing talent pipeline for healthcare providers across the region.

JCCC is already home to several top-ranked healthcare occupations programs, including certificates and associate degrees in:
- Dental Hygiene
- Registered Nursing
- Paramedics
- Respiratory Care
- Emergency Medical Responder (EMR)
- Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)
- Practical Nursing (LPN)
- Health Care Interpreting (Spanish/English)
- Medical Coding Specialist
- Certified Nurse Aide (CNA)
- Certified Medication Aide (CMA)
These academic programs are some of JCCC’s most popular and most competitive. As demand for healthcare professionals continues to grow, JCCC’s clinical education partners have encouraged JCCC to expand enrollment to help address workforce shortages across the region.
JCCC Dean of Healthcare, Public Safety, and Wellness, Chad Sanner, hopes that the new building will help JCCC expand opportunities for students, meet employer demands, and ensure the Johnson County community and surrounding regions have well-trained healthcare professionals for years to come.
JCCC’s Facilities Master Plan
The new healthcare building will be constructed as part of the first phase of JCCC’s 10-year Facilities Master Plan.
In June 2025, the JCCC Board of Trustees approved a new Facilities Master Plan from 2025-2035 to ensure JCCC’s campus facilities continue to align with students’ needs and support their success.
Other Facilities Master Plan goals include:
- Exploring the addition of spaces on the main campus to meet student and workforce demand in public safety and science programs
- Expanding Career & Technical Education facilities to help meet student and workforce demand
- Strengthening wayfinding for pedestrians and drivers
- Improving support spaces for athletics
- Addressing aging campus infrastructure

Expanding access before construction begins
JCCC is already implementing initiatives to help meet growing student demand for healthcare programs before construction begins.
Most recently, the College’s Registered Nursing program announced a second application cycle beginning in Spring 2027, allowing more students to start their nursing education sooner. This additional pathway will help expand access to one of JCCC’s most in-demand programs while supporting the region’s need for qualified nurses.
