Roger Paul Box, born on January 2, 1949, in Fort Scott, Kansas, passed away on August 18, 2026, at the age of 77 after a courageous battle with Parkinson’s disease.
Roger was a man of many talents and interests, known for his extensive knowledge across various fields and his dedication to sharing that knowledge with others. He graduated from Columbus Kansas High School in 1967, where he showcased his musical talent by playing reed instruments such as the baritone saxophone, bassoon, and oboe. His involvement in the pep band, pit orchestra, marching band, dance band, and concert band demonstrated his passion and skill in music.
Roger furthered his education at Pittsburg State University, earning a Bachelor of Science in Education in 1972, followed by a Master of Science in 1981. He applied his education and expertise to a diverse and impactful career.
His professional journey included working at Armco Steel in Kansas City and Sealright in DeSoto, Kansas. However, Roger found his true calling in education. He taught at Blue Valley High School and Metropolitan Community College. His dedication to teaching continued at Johnson County Community College, where he taught electronics, hydraulics, and computers, BNSF railroad students and numerous others in various technical disciplines until his retirement.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Roger had a true passion for cars. He enjoyed working on them, participating in car clubs, and sharing his love of automobiles with family and friends. Roger was truly a man of many talents, with an impressive amount of knowledge and an ability to understand how things worked. He was also a member of the American Welding Society, reflecting one of the many interests and talents he pursued throughout his life.
He was preceded in death by his father, Roger E. Box, his mother, A. Paulene Box, and his beloved wife, Fawna L. Box.
Roger is survived by his loving daughter, Tiffany Carbajo, and her husband, Brian Carbajo. He was a proud grandfather to Emma Carbajo, Barrett Carbajo, Brilee Carbajo, and Coltt Carbajo, who brought immense joy to his life.
Roger Paul Box will be remembered for his generosity in sharing his knowledge, his musical talents, and his love for family, friends and cars. His legacy lives on in the hearts of those he touched throughout his life.
A visitation will be held on Monday, August 24, 2026 at the Amos Family Funeral Home in Shawnee, KS from 5:00 to 7:00pm. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 26, 2026 at the Derfelt Funeral Home in Columbus, KS, with a visitation at 10:00am and service at 11:00am. He will be laid to rest at Lone Elm Cemetery in Columbus following the service.
