Diana Beeler Winslow, beloved sister, aunt, wife, nurse, and friend, passed away peacefully at age 70 on Friday, August 21, 2026, at her home in Leawood, Kansas. Born in Albuquerque, New Mexico, Diana spent her early years with her brother and three sisters as their family moved from coast to coast for her father’s career with Braniff Airlines.
After the passing of her grandfather, Lester Scott Beeler, the family returned to the 5-B Ranch in Jewell County, Kansas—a place that remained part of her family’s story. When Diana was in elementary school, the family moved to Overland Park, Kansas, where she later graduated from Shawnee Mission South High School. She went on to attend the University of Kansas, where she was a member of Delta Gamma Sorority, and Wichita State University, where she earned her Bachelor of Nursing degree.
Diana met the love of her life, William “Bill” Winslow, in middle school, and the two were married in 1979. Her nursing career eventually led her to the American Academy of Family Physicians, where she spent 20 years helping shape a program that reflected her dedication, steadiness, and deep commitment to caring for others. Through her work with the Advanced Life Support in Obstetrics (ALSO) program, Diana helped guide its growth from an emerging initiative into a respected global training program for more than 160,000 maternity care providers in over 63 countries.
From Brazil to Pakistan, the United Kingdom, and China, Diana’s perseverance and vision helped improve the quality and safety of maternity care in communities around the world, from remote settings to advanced medical environments. Diana loved all animals, especially her constant companion her dachshund Jujubee. Diana was preceded in death by her parents, Robert A. and Juliette Williams Beeler, and by her beloved husband, William “Bill” Winslow.
She will be lovingly remembered by her sisters, Nancy B. Perry (Robert), Patti B. Mann (Michael), and Juliette B. Bradley (Scott); her brother, R. Scott Beeler (Deborah); eight nieces and nephews; ten grandnieces and grandnephews; and the many people whose lives were touched by her kindness, dedication, and quiet strength. Per Diana’s request, there will not be a funeral service. In lieu of flowers, consider donating to a local animal rescue organization in Diana’s Memory.
