Douglas Kent Jones passed away August 24, 2026 in his home in Shawnee, KS.

Doug was born April 29, 1953 in Oklahoma. As part of a military family, Doug lived in many states as a child before settling in Kansas City as a young man. He met his wife, Stephanie, through mutual friends and they were married December 18, 1982. Doug was an avid woodworker, opening Hardwood Lumber, a custom furniture and lumber supply store, with his longtime friend Jim Giblin. Doug loved the outdoors including camping and fishing. He cultivated a thriving home garden. He enjoyed watching the birds in his backyard and always kept his birdfeeders full. During the winters, Doug enjoyed building model cars and trucks. Doug also enjoyed estate sales and antiques.

Doug’s greatest love was his family. Doug is survived by his wife Stephanie, his children Rob, Megan (Harpreet), and Laura (Sean), his grandchildren Lily, Ronan, and Gurbani, his brother Wayne (Vawnie), and sister Wynona, as well as many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank Doug’s medical team, including Dr. Bowers and Dr. Al-Chekakie (Advent Medical), as well as Aquinas Hospice.

A visitation will be held at Amos Funeral Home on Saturday, August 29, 2026 from 11:00 AM to 12 PM, followed by a 12:15 PM graveside service at Pleasant View Cemetery directly after.

There will be a small gathering at Pegah’s Restaurant after the graveside service to share memories and celebrate Doug’s life.
