Overland Park Police say a Lee’s Summit, Missouri, woman was killed in a four-vehicle crash on Interstate 435 Friday evening.
In a news release on Monday morning, Officer John Lacy said the crash happened on westbound I-435 near the US-69 interchange at about 8:37 p.m.
Lacy said a westbound vehicle attempted to exit into the US-69 interchange, just west of Antioch Road, but the driver crossed through the gore area (the space where the highway and the entrance ramp merge) and then struck the crash attenuator (the part of the highway that’s designed to absorb impact from crashes and reduce damage).
Three more vehicles became involved after the initial impact.
In total, eight people were involved.
Cynthia Aziere of Lee’s Summit, Missouri, died at an area hospital.
Lacy said five other people were taken to a local hospital to be evaluated; four of those people are believed to have suffered broken ribs.
Three other people were uninjured.
The Overland Park Police Department’s Traffic Unit continues to investigate the crash.
