A space previously occupied by a breakfast eatery will soon be filled with something new, where diners can eat gold.
Jala Indian Cuisine, an Indian restaurant that got its start in Florida, plans to open a new location in Overland Park in the coming weeks.
Jala Indian Cuisine is coming to 13386 Metcalf Ave.
- The restaurant will occupy a space at the Shoppes at Deer Creek Woods, just off 135th Street and Metcalf Avenue.
- If renovations go according to plan, Jala plans to open in late September.
- Once it opens, Jala will operate from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily.
Jala will serve “elegantly crafted” Indian cuisine
The menu at Jala features a variety of classic Indian dishes, from goat biryani and chana masala to chicken tandoori and aloo gobi.
In addition to the classics, Jala also offers some modern takes on dishes — including lobster tail butter masala, garlic truffle paneer tikka, and a variety of dishes finished with edible 24K gold.
Soloman Investment Group Worldwide, the ownership group behind Jala, owns several restaurants across the globe. This will be the second location overall for the Jala concept, which debuted in Florida in 2025.
“We believe Overland Park is one of those growing communities, and the people here are amazing,” said Jeffrey Soloman, CEO of Soloman Investment Group. “It’s just one of those places that we feel like we couldn’t pass up on.”
The name of the restaurant, “Jala”, is the Sanskrit word for “water”. That nature theme ties into the restaurant’s branding, Soloman said, and it will tie into the Overland Park space itself; lots of greenery, a warm and cozy interior, and a spacious outdoor patio.
“What we’re trying to do is kind of capture that (nature theme) and put it into the space,” Soloman said. “We are transforming the whole place completely.”
Another Broken Egg closed earlier this year
The new Indian restaurant is replacing Another Broken Egg, which closed earlier this year in that space.
The Florida-based breakfast eatery’s closure there meant the company’s complete departure from the Kansas City metro area.
At the time, Another Broken Egg had been open in Overland Park for more than five years.
The breakfast eatery also had another location in Prairie Village, which closed in the fall of 2025, now replaced in its Prairie Village spot by Mexican eatery Rulber’s.
