Amelia (Amy) Jane Case passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family. Amy was born in Carbondale, Illinois to parents, William and Ethel Felts. As a young child, she moved with her family to various parts of the US while her father served in the armed forces. She enjoyed most of her childhood in Carbondale, and spent many summers on the farm with her Aunt Gen and Uncle Buck Meyers. While a student at Washington University in St. Louis, she met the love of her life, William (Bill) F. Case, and obtained her bachelor’s degree in education in 1958. That same year, she married Bill and moved with him to Columbia, MO, where Bill attended medical school, and she taught third grade and a summer reading clinic. She later taught second grade in Tulsa, OK, while Bill was serving in the Air Force.
Amy and Bill settled in Overland Park, KS, where they raised three children – Kathryn, William, and Rebecca. During those years, Amy enjoyed being a full-time mother and homemaker. Later, she worked as a substitute teacher for the Shawnee Mission School District, was part owner of the Children’s Shop in Prairie Village, and then became a certified financial planner for IDS and American Express Financial Services. In 1988, she became a docent for the Nelson Atkins Museum. Amy enjoyed tennis, aerobics, golf, bridge, snow skiing, hiking, and traveling with her husband and friends. For many years, Amy and Bill spent summers at their second home in Winter Park, CO, where they entertained family and friends. She was a long-time member of Rolling Hills Presbyterian Church, serving as an elder and Steven minister. Additionally, Amy volunteered for the Children’s Center for the Visually Impaired, Pets for Life, the Johnson County Christmas Bureau, and was a Bluebird and Campfire leader. She was a member of PEO, Chapters GZ and HJ for more than 50 years. In her college years she was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority
Amy was preceded in death by her beloved husband, her parents, and her brother, William T. Felts II. Survivors include her children, Kathy Tahan (Ted), Bill Case (Stasha), and Becky Davis (Brad), grandchildren, Paul Tahan (Libby), Lindsay Weidenhamer (Wes), Maddie Davis (Ryan Czerwinski), and Nick Tahan, and one great grandchild, Josephine Tahan.
Funeral services will be held at Rolling Hills Presbyterian Church (9300 Nall Ave. Overland Park, KS 66207) on Saturday, September 12th, 2026, at 10:30am. A short reception in the narthex will immediately follow the service with a private interment. Donations may be made to a charity of your choice. The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the staff at Tallgrass Creek, Blue Sage Assisted Living and Long-Term Care Center for their loving care of Amy in her final years.
