Garnette Kelly, 87, of Shawnee, Kansas passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on Thursday, September 3, 2026. She was born in Cincinnati, Ohio the daughter of Charles and Ethel (Berger) Kanet. She was one of eleven siblings, the eldest daughter.

She grew up in Cincinnati, Ohio and resided there until meeting her husband, James, where they lived in Ohio for a while until moving to several different states for work including New Jersey, North Carolina and eventually making Kansas their forever home.

Her and James had three children together and Garnette was home with the children until each child was in school full time. She has been a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church for many years, a part of the women’s circle group, the church bowling leagues, and lady’s guild group. She enjoyed telling stories at social functions, quilting, playing card games with her siblings, bunko, bingo games, and most of all spending time with her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband of 50 years, James Kelly; brothers, Vernon Ready, William Ready, Jerry and James Kanet.

Garnette is survived by her children; Jennifer (James) Okerberg, Michael (Amanda) Kelly, Debra (Doug) Tabor; grandchildren, Hannah and Wesley Tabor, Ashley and Megan Okerberg, and Taylor, Jonathan, and Zoie Kelly; two great-grandchildren, James (Little Man) and Bentley.
