Naomi Silverman, 82, of Lenexa, passed away on September 4, 2026, at home surrounded by her family. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Sunday, September 6, 2026, at Louis Memorial Chapel, burial at Kehilath Israel Blue Ridge Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to whatever organization is most meaningful to you.
Naomi was known for her warm heart and kindness. She found something to appreciate about any person that crossed her path. Her table was always open to new friends and those looking for a place to belong.
Naomi was born December 14, 1943 to the late Jack and Ann Waldman, in the Bronx, NY. She graduated from Valley Stream High School in 1961. She received her BA from the University of Buffalo in 1965 and her MA from UMKC in 1989. She married her college sweetheart, Mike Silverman, in 1965 and they enjoyed 61 years together. Together they raised two daughters, Gayle Silverman and Sheri Silverman.
Naomi was a high school Spanish teacher until 2009 and switched to substitute teaching until her official retirement. Fondly known as “Senora Silverman,” she taught for almost 40 years, impacting the lives of hundreds of students. Years after retiring, students continued to reach out and share how much being in her class meant to them.
She was an active member of Congregation Ohev Shalom, serving 2 years as Sisterhood president and 2 years as co-President. After joining Beth Shalom in 2021, she later served as the co-vice president of their Warm Up America chapter, helping distribute knitted blankets to those in need. She was an avid traveler, loved to read, and was always up for a game of mahjong.
Naomi was preceded in death by her parents, Jack and Ann Waldman and her in-laws Nathan and Lola Silverman.
She is survived by her beloved husband, Mike Silverman of Lenexa, KS; daughters Gayle Silverman and Sheri Silverman, both of Chicago, IL, her sister Linda Blumberg of Oceanside, NY, her sisters in-law Tina Cohen of Boynton Beach, FL and Gail Golderberg of Ellicott City, MD and numerous nieces and nephews.
