In a redeveloping corner of the Shops of Prairie Village, golf enthusiasts just took their first swings inside the city’s newest golfing venue.
This month, locally owned indoor golf facility GolfTRK opened its newest Johnson County facility in Prairie Village.
GolfTRK opened at 7068 Mission Road
- The facility took over a space at the Shops of Prairie Village, just off 71st Street and Mission Road.
- There, it operates near Big Grove Brewery, in the newly redeveloped former site of department store Macy’s.
- For members, GolfTRK is open from 5 a.m. to midnight daily.
GolfTRK offers an alternative to Topgolf-style indoor golfing
The Prairie Village space has eight high-tech golf simulator bays — plus a PuttView green in the center, a feature unique to the Prairie Village location specifically.
Unlike other indoor golfing facilities, GolfTRK is focused more on golf specifically; there’s no bar inside to speak of.
To its founders, that’s the point.
“What we found was a lot of the indoor golf options that were out there at the time (of GolfTRK’s founding) were geared towards entertainment,” co-founder Sam Collins said. “That really wasn’t what we were looking for from a practice standpoint.”
This marks the third GolfTRK in Johnson County
Founders Sam Collins, Alex Reed and Matt Williams opened GolfTRK’s flagship location in August 2023.
“It really started with us looking for a place that we could go and practice,” Collins said. “A place that used great technology and had flexible access.”
So they created one, in Lenexa. Another GolfTRK location followed in January 2025, further south near the Bluhawk development in southern Overland Park.
From GolfTRK’s early days, the trio behind it said their eyes have been on Prairie Village too.
“Prairie Village is a great market for us,” Collins said. “We’re surrounded by high-quality golf courses; a lot of private courses in the area that (have) waiting lists or are very expensive to join.”
Johnson County isn’t the only place where GolfTRK is growing. The locally owned company now has locations in other states too, such as Oregon, Nebraska and Texas, with even more on the way.
“It feels like this is absolutely a milestone that is a reflection of where we’ve come,” co-founder Alex Reed said. “This time next year, we should have around 35 to 40 locations open.”
To see the early response in both Prairie Village and in the new states that GolfTRK has just been introduced to, Collins added, feels like a bit of a “full circle” moment.
“The response has been incredible,” he said. “To actually get to this point, it’s a pretty cool moment.”
